“You know when you hear a song and it takes you back to a memory? That’s what I want. I want to give people moments to remember.” Singer/Songwriter Natalie Hemby makes those moments through songs that have a style and intensity that are uniquely hers. Sometimes quirky, sometimes sarcastic, she has a talent for making brutal honesty sound like a pat on the back.
Natalie was born in Bloomington, Illinois, but was raised in Nashville, Tennessee. At age 19, she signed her first publishing deal and began writing with the likes of Mike Dulaney (Faith Hill), Jay Joyce (Patti Griffin, Shelby Lynne, Rubyhorse), Tim Putnam (Others, Michael W. Smith) and wrote with such artists as Rachael Lampa, Susan Cagle, and the Wilkinsons. Natalie’s song “Sweet Girl” was featured in the television show “Felicity” during the fire episode, and her song “L.A.”, performed by the Wilkinsons, went to #5 on the Canadian Country charts. Keeping it all in the family, her first record, “Under the Radar”, was produced and played by husband Mike Wrucke (Miranda Lambert, Angaleena Presley.) Natalie’s songs have been recorded by Carrie Underwood and Lee Ann Womack, and she recently celebrated her first number one with Miranda Lambert’s “White Liar”, which she wrote with Miranda.
Drawing inspiration from real life and make believe, she is able to tap into an emotional vein of everyday struggle and turn them into songs of pain, passion, and grace. Armed with the support and talent of her family, Natalie is making waves in Nashville’s eclectic music pond. She is moving ahead enthusiastically, and will be making plenty of memories on the way up.
